Ovolo Woolloomooloo - Luxury on Steroids

Updated: Aug 17, 2019

Let me introduce you all to the coolest hotel I have EVER stayed in. First I’ll start with the fact that yes, Woolloomooloo is a real place, and yes, it is incredibly fun to say. If you’ve read some of my other articles, you’ll know by now that I pretty much exist for the purpose of freaking out about nice hotels. Ovolo is a luxury boutique hotel that sits on the Woolloomooloo Finger Wharf in Sydney, Australia. The historic wharf has now been taken over by trendy restaurants, bars, residences, and this hotel. To give you an idea of just how trendy and uppity the area is, Russel Crowe frequents the residences (along with his yacht).

Now, I’ll be honest, this hotel is not exactly cheap as I’m sure you’ve guessed. However, I like to splurge on certain things on various trips that I know will make a lasting impression on me. This hotel happened to be one of those high-ticket items for me, so I booked the least expensive room they had and packed a little over-night bag, looking forward to the experience to come. As I was checking in however, they upgraded me to a loft suite overlooking Sydney Harbor. Believe me, I was absolutely floored. So, after thanking them about a million times I took the elevator up to my room and settled in. By settled in, I mostly mean ran around the room opening all the doors and calling my parents to tell them how cool this was. I even took a two-minute video exploring both floors of the hotel room. To welcome their guests, they leave a “loot bag” which they somewhat hilariously treat like a drug deal. In the bag, there are snacks, wines, and even a backpack which I still use to this day.

All aspects of the room could not have been better. The view was great, the bathrooms were a comfortable size, the bed was stylish and I slept very well in it. They even had a tv upstairs in the bedroom and downstairs in the living area, both of which were connected to Amazon Alexa’s to control what played. This was the first time I could access an Alexa, so you can imagine all the idiotic questions I asked and requests I made. Even the curtains were automated. My point is, Ovolo Woolloomooloo takes luxury to the extreme, and I could not have been more pleased with my stay.

For anyone staying at the hotel there are plenty of dining options including Australian, Indian, Chinese, and Italian cuisines along with the area’s staple – seafood. Don’t worry, if you don’t want to leave the comfort of your bed, there’s also in-room dining options. And, if you don’t think this hotel could get any better, it’s in a great location too! The wharf sits right next to Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair and the Royal Botanic Gardens which means it is also a short walk through the gardens to the Sydney Opera House and all of the great benefits and activity of Circular Quay.
